You have been a busy gal the last few days!! I will write a nicer praise memo soon, but wanted you to know that you have been amazing to work with :) From tolerating our hyper puppies and getting some breath taking engagement shots to going... with the flow when we got the tractor out and of course shooting Lee and I and the wedding party shooting trap, you made the whole experience feel like we were with a friend and not just a photographer we were paying to be there.

You are amazing at your art and we cant even imagine having worked with anyone else. Our previews are stunning and bring the emotions of seeing each other that day for the first time rushing right back. I can't say enough how much we enjoyed working with you! I'm writing a blog!

Yesterday was rough...not anymore rough than a few other days...let's just say it was the icing on the cake.

Sam and I went to dinner....without any other words spoken I looked up and said..."I'm writing a blog!" without anymore than that he knew what I meant and said "Ok"...and Just like that I had decided it was time.

Not sure how long ago I read this quote and it has STUCK with me every since!
People don't leave because things are hard. They leave because it's no longer worth it.

And that my friends after 4 years, some amazing clients, witnessing some beautiful love and connection between my couples, pure dedication, and more than I can count sleepless nights.....I will not be booking anymore weddings.

There is a lump in my throat when I say it....but I know it's the right decision. I have met some amazing people and will not forget the impact they have had in my life and I know we will still be friends and I am thankful for that.

Even though it's called Sarah Wellmeier Photography....I like to think of myself as an artist. Capturing your love and essence of the day all while keeping it real, natural and beautiful. I do not show up with a game plan...if you have been a client you know I do not do a lot of posing ...the images are you & the love, joy & happiness you share with your special someone. Believe me when I tell you there are some people you just can't please even if you served it on a gold platter. Guess what...when I have more Saturdays to hugs my babes....you can bet they won't say that was a great hug momma, but you could have done it a little better. Nope they will just be happy that I was able to do it and that makes my heart smile:)

For those weddings/clients that I still have on the books:::Don't worry, you wedding will be captured nothing short of amazing:) All products will still be available.

As for portrait Clients....Let's do this!! Every thing remains the same. Can't wait!!

I started the morning out with the girls at The Le Merigot.

Hope Mitchell out of Louisville did the make-up...everyone looked fabulous. I wanted to bring her home. Wouldn't it be awesome to have your make-up done everyday;) By the way as a Bride...if you're on the fence about getting your make-up done for your big day...DO IT!!! It's so worth it!!

Mother Nature didn't really cooperate all day...but we literally took 5 minutes and were able to capture some portraits.

Good afternoon!! I have been wanting to share some things around my house for awhile now. Finding the time to take pictures and post them is another story. So we will see how this goes;)

I will start with a recently finished project....I adore it!! Before we had this wall....we had all this stuff sitting around where ever it would fit. DROVE me crazy!!

I like to describe our house as quaint......Dear Internet, It's like trying to fit a size 8 foot into a pair of Beautiful size 7 heels. So with that my background in Interior design and just pure creativeness...we have managed to fit...just barely;)

I will literally lay awake at night when I'm decorating in the house dreaming up what I can do. Sam just knows now when I say "so, I've been thinking".....that it's not good for him;)

So when I mentioned this...it just so happened, a Flea Market was in town the next weekend....and we went;) This wall was not created in one weekend. I already had the barrels on the floor and everything left of the spice cabinet:)
Projects like this that are beautiful and organizational...seriously make my day!!!

I had the pleasure of photographing some of Flutter's Frye boots last week and it was the best gig! I mean really as a pure lover of boots....it was all I could do not to want a pair in every color;)

Thoughts I really don't want to hear myself saying when my kids are raised.....

Last Saturday I deleted my Sarah Wellmeier Photography Fan page and deactivated my personal account with no notice. Since then I have gotten several phone calls, texts and emails wondering where in the heck I went. Well I just needed a break. My phone has never been so quite and it has been nice!! My fan page and personal page were linked. So to to deactivate and live life away from the keyboard for a bit I had delete my fan page.

Some might call me crazy....and I'm ok with that. Every body has different meanings of success and where they are headed in life. It has been a decision I have been struggling with for at least 8 months or so...no lie!! I'm in this to run a business not to provide people with free Facebook profile images that often times ended up getting my logo cropped out. I understand we are in a digital age....that's why I will continue to blog so my clients can share with friends and family. I have also started a new fan page to share smigens...not several images of each shoot;)

So if you would like to follow along over there...feel free to. No pressure:)

I think it was a little over a month ago I had Facebooked about buying the car behind me her coffee at Starbucks...and it literary made me happy and smile as I drove away. So yesterday I decided to do it again...giving makes me happy and being nice where it seems as though a lot of people are to busy for, makes my day:)

So it went something like this when I paid. "I'll pay for the car{s} behind me."
Now I'm not sure if I said car or cars....long story short...I seen him run my card 4 times, I then realized I must have said cars;) I thought oops.
He said..."the good thing is none of them were really big spenders"
I said..."well, I don't know any of them, so Just tell them to have a great day and enjoy:)"

So it's your turn....go ahead Pay it Froward...I promise you will feel good:)

You ever feel like you need to explain yourself.....Yeah me neither;)

However It's only April and I kinda wish it was 2012. So far this year has tested my strength, my values, and who I am as a person down to the core.

Now I won't go into all the details....but friendships have been proven...some not for the better. Family has shown their true self and it's very disheartening. Business relationships have been burned. All of these issues have weighed on me heavy.

I will say that seriously I am one who will go out of way to help someone. Those who know me....know I'm very vocal and opinionated but tend to where my heart on my sleeve. It's what makes me...ME! So I don't plan on changing;)Add all this in with in with trying to keep my business true to what I stand for has been a long road. I read this quote the other day and it has stuck with me "you never know how strong you are, until strong is all you have" Good gravy...isn't that the truth!

Some things I have learned through all this....
~Never tell certain people everything.
~The more success you get the more people are going to be jealous.
~Just when you think you know someone...I have realized I didn't really know them at all.
~Sam has made my reality way better than I could have ever dreamed.
~I have fought and worked real hard to get to where I am {business owner}.....and miss daily where I came from {stay at home mom}
~Pretty sure some people are my friend cause I have a camera...nuf said.
~If another business tells you "this will be great for your business" run....run like hell!!
~Never back down from what you believe
~always say what you need to say
~and no matter what....always "Just be True"

I have wanted my portrait with a Rooster for awhile now. My Roosters are a little hard to catch....so while at my mom's the other day, I asked Clay to catch one, handed the camera to Sam.......check and mark. That was the easy part!
I have 2 Roosters and 5 chickens....however I don't carry them around;) So holding this Rooster for a picture was not easy for me;) In fact in was comical to say the least. So I thought I would share some out takes and the final one;)

Well I headed back to New Harmony not long ago for another shoot;) This time Mandy needed some head shots for her business. Mandy is the owner of Mama's Own Green Cleaning here in Evansville. You should totally check her out!!

Anywho...we had a great time. I told her she could ride with me and then we could find somewhere for her to change.....Forgive me Mandy, but she said I was raised in the woods...it don't bother me to change out in the open. HA! That's when I knew she was the client for me...not that I change out in the open all the time, but she is just really down to earth and I liked that about her. Oh and she showed up in boots.....so of course she is awesome!! On with the photos...Enjoy:)

Well...like always...I have been thinking so much about where I want my business to and who I want to be as an artist. So much like the MomMe sessions was born...this session was born too.

This project was born one day as I combing over thousands of family photos. The more I looked the more I realized I was only in about 10% of them. And if I was honest my own mom is only in about 1% of them. She is always running out of the picture.

This is about capturing your inside beauty on the outside. As moms we are usually the one with the camera and never in front of it.

Sooo....Beautiful Momma was born!! You, me and a camera. Capturing you as you are!

Need some pretty things to go with your coffee this morning....Great, you have come to the right place:)

You all remember my Studio tour I gave here on the Blog...you can see it here. I had the Studio for a couple of weeks before I picked paint colors, because I was searching for the Perfect couch. Yeah I'm that girl....when it comes to design and decorating...I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Plus it's the thrill of the hunt...which makes it all that much sweeter when you find something you adore. And let me tell you, that couch, I adore!!

So with all that said, it brings me to all these pretty things from Lost & Found located on East side of Evansville. It's where I purchased my couch and have now been a regular shopper. If you haven't been, you are missing out.

The stores owner Ellen is super sweet and her store is nothing short of amazing!! As soon as you go in it ..... just feels good:)

He she is.....My Momma!!! I have never taken her picture before, I know right! She would never let me...you know she always had to loose some weight first. Guess what we all love her just the way she is...so I made get some pictures done;) However she is on her journey of a Lifestyle change. She has been going to the YMCA and doing water aerobics and eating better:) I could not be more proud!!

So here are some starting pictures...we are going to track her progress every couple months with pictures...stay tuned:)

What kind of deal can I get?

It's true....about every other day someone is asking if they my prices are the best I can do...are they flexible? Simple answer NO! I mean let's be honest, the last time I checked, my mortgage wasn't.

It's almost an insult....I realize I'm not the Photographer for everybody. Everyone has a "budget" or as I like to call it "priorities".....don't even get me started on that;) BUT I will say this If your feeding 200+ people at an average of $25 plus a plate....PLEASE don't even mention the word budget to me! In case you need a reminder.....that food will not be remembered a few years from now....and to be frank....it's gets $hit out the next day. Do you want to impress your friends or do want to relive how you felt in that very moment years later.

Some of my favorite weddings have been some of the simplest. Focusing on the Love and not impressing everybody you have ever known. Only a handful of that large guest list will be there for you as the months turn into years and you as a couple turn into a family....only a handful!

This can also be said for portraits. I mean think about it. If you were to give up a few nights of eating out, or that coach purse you need, a trip to Gymboree....whatever your thing is. Skipping a few of those can get some images that will put a much bigger smile on your face for years to come.

So when the question is asked "What kind of deal can I get?" There is your answer.
Maybe someone without a tax ID, no overhead, no family to feed, no professionalism, no back-up equipment, a hobby camera with a kit lens, no care that THIS is one of your most important days of your life can help you get a deal....trust me when I tell you there are plenty of them out there.....and I'm not one of them:)

She had contacted me wanting some new head shots......sure thing;) She had mentioned she wanted something fun..not so stiff. Well She picked the right girl for the job. I'm all about fun and totally ditching the old traditional, chessy, gray background head shots...for real!!! I'm a firm believer you can still have a very professional picture with some sparkle!! We are women after all...might as well work it and show off them boots or heels;) We just did this shoot yesterday morning and had a great time!!

In the fall of 2008 I boarded a plane for a semester of studying abroad in the United Kingdom. I was excited to travel throughout Europe, learn about a new culture, and have a break from a typical semester of hitting the books hard. Little did I know, but I was about to gain so much more than the typical study abroad experience.

About a week after arriving, my friends and I were out at a local pub and met a group of guys, one of which included a guy named Tom. We spent most of the night chatting away with them and overall having a great time. Thinking we'd never see each other again, as he was on summer break and about to head back to his university, Tom and I went our separate ways at the end of the night. A few nights later, my friends and I were again out in town, and low and behold, we ran into Tom and his friends again. He was going back to school in a few days, but thanks to things such as Facebook and cell phones, we opted to keep in touch. It was clear that we both felt some kind of connection (cheesy but so true!). Over the next few months we spent tons of time getting to know each other. He would come back from university to visit (about 3 hours away!) whenever he could, and when I wasn't traveling. As my semester of studying drew to a close, the fact that we lived on two separate continents became more of a reality and we started to wonder what would happen. Being two people who live life with no regrets, we decided to go for it and give our relationship a go. After all, we'd never know unless we tried!

Last October, while over on a visit, Tom proposed. I couldn't have been happier and more excited. Now, after almost two and a half years of flying back and forth between the continents and only getting to see each other for a few weeks every four or five months (we sure know how to rack up the frequent flyer miles...and huge phone bills!), we've set a date for our wedding in 2011 and will finally be able to be together. Looking back, we're both so happy we decided to give it chance and overcome the 4,000 miles between us. It's been a rough road, but all the while worth it. True love really does conquer all. =)

Love Story
It was a wink at first sight! Gavin and I first came in contact via Match.com - Gavin winked at me first and it progressed slowly from there. We emailed back and forth for quite a while before I finally worked up the nerve to call. We talked for hours that evening, and about everything: family, friends, likes, dislikes, favorites, etc. For the next few days, we emailed back and then spoke on the phone into the wee hours. Finally, on July 1st, 2008, we had our first date! Gavin said “Let’s go out for drinks”, so I raced home after work and grabbed something to eat so I wouldn’t be starving. As I was pulling into the parking lot, my car completely bottomed out making a very loud noise! I was quite embarrassed and turned red before I got out of the car. As I was walking to meet Gavin, I saw him and thought he was quite cute, just as his picture portrayed (which is good in the world of internet dating). We went inside and sat down at a table. We ordered a drink and then Gavin ordered dinner. I was so confused and when I explained that I thought it was just drinks, we both just laughed. We had a nice time at dinner, complete with a full Irish band!
We had a few more dates and enjoyed each other’s company. He met my Virginia “family” and then I met his real family. He asked me to be his girlfriend on August 1st, 2008, although we celebrate our anniversary on the anniversary of our 1st date. We were dating for a few months, when in October 2008 my parents came for a visit from Indiana and met Gavin. We had dinner a few nights that week and we all really enjoyed each other’s company, not to mention my parents loved him. Score 1 for Gavin!!
After my parents’ visit, Gavin got some good news! He had interviewed for a new job and he got it! YAY! But there was also bad news at the same time. Gavin had to relocate to Morgantown, WV. Umm…where is that? Is there anything to do there? Are there big cities around there? Gavin and I talked, made lists of pros and cons, talked more, made more lists, and finally I encouraged Gavin to take the job and move away from Virginia and have an adventure in a new city and state! (I did it when I graduated Ball State and moved to DC – it was a fun adventure). Gavin and I considered what I should do with my job, living arrangements, etc. We planned it so I would move back in with good friends and live there until I got a job in West Virginia. We would move all my furniture and things I didn’t need in Virginia to the apartment and hope that I found a job soon. We made a plan to have a long-distance relationship and visit one another every free weekend.
We started the commuting back and forth on the weekends. It was suppose to take 3 hours each way; sometimes it would take 3 hours and other times it took 6 hours! We never knew what the traffic would be like out of Washington, DC or into West Virginia. We put a lot of miles on our cars while driving back and forth. After we spent a whole year driving back and forth, we revisited me finally moving to West Virginia. We talked to each other, to our parents, to our families and to our friends. My brother and sister-in-law have experienced a long distance relationship and understood how hard it was and how much work it really took.
We decided that until we were married, we would spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with our own families. In 2009, Gavin came to Indiana for a few days before Christmas to see my parents and so we could spend a little bit of the holidays together before he drove to Virginia. We spent the first few days of the week hanging out in Evansville, spending time with my parents, and just relaxing. It was a great few days and it brought us even closer together.
When Gavin was leaving, my dad helped him with his bags to the car. My mom and I were secretly watching out the window and noticed they hugged! I hadn’t ever seen them hug! I knew something was up. My dad came back into the house and started crying. My mom and I asked him what was wrong. He said that Gavin had asked his permission to marry me and my Dad told him, “I think you should!” We all started crying and hugging and were so happy. But then it hit us: Dad wasn’t supposed to tell me. Oops! (And why didn’t he say, “Yes” instead of, “I think you should”)? We had a bit of a laugh about it; then Dad called Gavin and said, “Yes, you can marry my daughter”. After that my mom called to apologize for ruining the surprise. I had known since we met that Gavin was the man for me and that we would get married and have kids someday! I wasn’t expecting him to ask my dad for permission so soon, but I was happy that he wasn’t afraid to ask.
In January, I took a little time to send some ring ideas to my mom and Gavin, thinking it would be awhile before anything happened. I wanted something classic, simple, yet elegant. So, I sent my ideas along, thinking it would be the summer before anything happened! Well, was I wrong! I was in West Virginia visiting Gavin the last weekend in January. We had a typical weekend in Morgantown, went to dinner, relaxed at the apartment Gavin was living in - nothing out of the ordinary. It was almost time for me to leave on Sunday and Gavin said he had a question for me. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I immediately dropped to my knees, hugged him and kept saying, “Really?” Finally, he said, “Sarah, you didn’t answer”. Of course I then said “yes!” I was so shocked that I forgot to answer him! Oh goodness. I couldn’t believe it. The ring was GOREGOUS! I just love it and can’t believe he did so well picking it out! We were in engaged on January 31st, 2010!
I drove home to Virginia and looked at my ring the whole time. The next weekend, Gavin was supposed to come to visit me, but we had the worst snow storm and blizzard Virginia had ever seen. I didn’t get to see Gavin, but we talked every day and we were so happy to be engaged, knowing we would be getting married and spending the rest of our lives together. After 7 days of being snowed in at home, I had to drive to West Virginia to fly to Chicago with Gavin to visit my family for my niece’s 3rd birthday! We made it to Chicago and talked to my family more about me finally moving to West Virginia. It had been 14 months of driving back and forth and we were both ready to live together and start our lives together. On February 16th, 2010 I gave my two week notice at work that I would be leaving and moving to West Virginia. I had discussed it with my housemates and they were very happy for Gavin and me, as they were there when our relationship just started and had been such supportive friends throughout the whole relationship.
I finally moved to West Virginia in March of 2010 to be with Gavin. I was able to find a job in May and worked for a few months until I lost that job. Gavin was still working and supporting both of us in that hard time. After a month and a half of job searching in West Virginia, we decided that I should broaden my search to Pittsburgh, PA as well. Gavin could probably transfer to Pittsburgh because there was another job site there that he visited frequently. So, when our lease renewal came up, we took a leap of faith and decided we would move to Pittsburgh, PA to live there. We found a house to rent, and I was able to find a job by November and have been working since. Gavin is also still working in Morgantown, but is able to work at the Pittsburgh job site two days a week.
We are getting married October 1st, 2011, which would have been my grandfather’s 80th birthday. We will be married in Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Evansville, where my parents were married 33 years before us. Our reception will be at Cambridge Golf Club and we have planned a rustic yet elegant wedding. We will be doing a lot of the details ourselves with help from our family and friends. Our colors are purple and peridot green with peacock feathers as accents. We are having rustic centerpieces made from branches and moss that will be inside of tall cylinder vases. We will each have 5 attendants, including a maid of honor, matron of honor, 3 bridesmaids, 2 best men, and 3 groomsmen. Our wedding party is made up of family and friends we have known for a long time. We will be incorporating family heirlooms and pieces as well.

1 + 1 = 11
Shane and I first met 11 years ago when I was a scrawny 14 year old and he was 4 years my senior. My attempts to gain his attention then were unsuccessful, but I never forgot about him. We saw each other randomly from time to time and though Shane was cordial and courteous, he was always involved in a relationship.
Our first successful encounter occurred on January 11, 2008 when I returned home from IU to celebrate my mom’s birthday. Shane and I spent our first meaningful evening together at Little Cheers with mutual friends. The following week I fabricated a reason to call Shane and purposely returned home for the weekend hoping to see him. Thank goodness after all of that effort we met and he DID ask me for a “real date! That Valentine’s Day Shane drove after work all of the way from Evansville to Bloomington with a bouquet of flowers and surprised me. 11 years after our first meeting, we became a couple and have been inseparable ever since.
At 1:11 A.M. on 1-1-11 Shane proposed .Our wedding day is 12- 30-11. I will carry 11 long stemmed red roses and 11 candles will be placed on the altar to represent each one(1) of us as a person joining together as two; hence our special story of 1 + 1 = 11.

Our Love Story
A hot and humid day in July of 2009 is where it started. The first time I saw Jake was from the corner of my eye. I knew there was a really cute guy that had just sat down next to me, but I was trying to play it cool, so I didn’t look at him directly at first… Then he smiled.
We fell in love that week at Wonder Valley Christian Camp in Southern Indiana. We had just drawn puzzle pieces to see what “family” we’d be in for the week at Wonder Valley. We were put in the same family, and I am convinced God planned it that way. Jake came and sat on the bench next to me after putting his piece of the bear puzzle down, and our love story began.
Jake and I spent our whole week together. We swam, ate, walked, painted, but most of all, we talked. I remember feeling so at ease during our long conversations, there was a deep connection between us and I felt like I’d known Jake my whole life. We talked about anything and everything from country music to being in love to God and family. We discussed the U.S. Air Force. Jake had already signed the papers. He was planning on leaving for basic training that fall and asked if I’d write him letters while he was at basic training. I said I would, and I did. We talked the last morning of camp about meeting up, staying in touch, and visiting each other. To everyone’s surprise, we did.
In order to spend time with one another for the past year and half, we’ve had to get creative. I am finishing up college in Alabama, and he has been all over the U.S. for his training. We talk on the phone a lot, use Skype, and visit each other on weekends when possible. We’ve both driven and flown to see one another, but waiting three or four months for just a few days with the one you love is not easy. For Jake and me, marriage is going to give us the ability to be together.
This year is going to be even harder. Jake just left for an overseas duty station in Japan, while I’m staying in the U.S. to finish my schooling. I will graduate from college in December with a BA in Fine Arts, and we will get married a few weeks after that. The only way I am able to handle the separation from Jake at this exciting time in our lives is my faith in God and His plan for us. He brought us together for a reason, and gave us a beautiful gift of strong love for one another and the promise of forever together. We are so thankful for our loving, supportive families who are there for us and give us strength.
We will be getting married at McJohnston Chapel on December 30, 2011, which is less than two weeks after my college graduation! It will be a small, afternoon wedding with family and close friends.
The style of the wedding is inspired by a gemstone, the opal. There will be a lot of white and touches of sparkle and iridescence. Daylight through the windows of the church and reception area will be key components to set it off. The white form of the opal has an iridescent gleam that contains many colors. Coral pink dresses and lavender touches will help dress the bridal party, and the groomsmen will have either their Air Force “blues” on or navy suits. I think that elegant, romantic, and ethereal will describe the ceremony and reception. There will be a mixture of traditional and modern elements with vintage vibes and artistic touches.
I’ m so excited to spend forever with Jake. Our relationship has taken surprising twists and turns because of the military, but with every new challenge there is our faithful God who guides our steps, our families who love and help us along the way, and the promise of an amazing future as soul mates and best friends.

Well.....where do I even start. I mean really? These are the sessions I live for. Ones that need no explanation, you can look at the images and feel the LOVE.
This is my dear friend Jamie and her baby Ella Grace. I was dying to get home and look through these images the other day after the session. As soon as I went through them....my eyes filled with tears....because I knew I had captured exactly what I was going for. A mother's love....nothing more, nothing less. See for yourself folks...I got it!

Tuesday Talk:::All about Food or shall I say sugar!

Good Afternoon!!! This is the 3rd week of Tuesday talk.....and I'm out of things to talk about;) ha...those that know me...pretty much know that's a lie. I always have something to talk about:) So today's post is very random and all about food!!

I will start by saying I had the pleasure of photographing Steel Cook again this year. Oh yeah...it's not a bad gig, being surrounded by food:) I'll share more on this later. I will show you one of the winning dishes from Riverview by Firefly

Next up I wanted to give a shout out to a local catering company. Schmitt Catering and More was just one of the vendors at Steel Cook 2011. If you are someone in need of some yummy food...give them a call!

Oh and I forgot to share this with you. It's a puff Pancake with Bluberry syrup. I made this for breakfast a couple of weeks ago....yummy!!!

Good afternoon!!!

"This week has felt like a roller coaster...you know the one where when you get off, you have a headache, feel like you have been hit by a mac truck and you are certain you don't want to get back on. Yeah that has been my week thus far and it's only Wednesday." That was my Facebook status last night. It has been one of the weirdest weeks.....for real!! If I were being honest January as a whole has been different for me.

Do you think you can live life with too much of your heart in it? I'm being serious. Do you think the days of chatting it up with your friends in person when you really need them the most, not by text or Facebook are gone? Do you think your family getting together for no reason...no special holiday...just for good company, are gone? Why can't people speak the truth...lay it on the line, instead of patching a problem like a flat tire and waiting for a blowout! Losing clients....just as clients invest in me as their Photographer....I'm also investing in them...so when you lose them for whatever reason, that you may never know...it sucks! Just some random thoughts haunting me and causing me not to sleep lately.....and while I'm not gonna share the rest of the stories on this blog.....please just know it's been a tough week for me.

On a brighter note....My mama's birthday was yesterday!! I tell you every time I get to talk to my mama...for that moment everything seems right in the world. When I walked in her house over Thanksgiving.....don't really remember what I had on, but I'm sure it was a dress with my boots and gaudy jewelry {my love for gaudy jewelry came from her}....and she said "woooooweeee....look at you, I want to be just like you when I grow up!" If she only knew I have always looked up to her and wanted to be like her when I grew up. I guess you could say I've made it;)

Hello. My name is Jill. I am a medical student, four months shy of being a M.D.!! I live in Louisville, Ky with my husband, our two large furry dogs, and two fluffy cats. I am not sure how I would describe my wedding style….. maybe eclectic elegance, definitely nontraditional!! I am so excited to share with future brides in hopes they have a wedding as perfect and fabulous as mine. Well, as perfect and fab I thought mine was!! Sarah Wellmeier was such an important part of my wedding experience. I cannot imagine it without her! My photos look as if they belong on the cover of a magazine! I keep trying to think of reasons why I need another photo shoot! Below is my top five little bits of advice for future brides I have learned from my many wedding experiences. Too many to count as a bridesmaid and one as a bride!!

1. Be yourself: The guests of your wedding are coming because they love and want to support YOU and YOUR HUSBAND. Your guests love to see your personal touches in your wedding. If you are someone who loves pink, have a pink wedding! Don’t be discouraged if others (your mother, mother-in-law, friends, etc.) think your ideas are not “tradional enough” or “silly”. If you are someone who loves traditional weddings, follow tradition, not what is instyle or the latest trend. I cannot tell you how good it felt to hear my guests say, “Your Wedding is so You.”

2. Get a good photographer: A photographer is not where to save your money. (Sarah did not pay me to say this J) Your wedding photos are going to be with you for the rest of your life. You want to be able to remember every moment and be proud to show them for years to come. A photo should tell a story and that is exactly what Sarah’s photography does. Each time I look at my wedding photos, I can taste our first bite of cake, smell the amazing Italian cuisine, and see the shimmer of my wedding bouquet. It brings me back to that exact second in time. Ask your friends for recommendations and meet the photographer in person. When, I met Sarah she wore bright colors , big jewelry, and a big beautiful smile. I knew she was the one!

3. Engagement photos: Dress like you! For our engagement photos, I was sure to pick out clothes my husband and I would normally wear. It made the photos feel very genuine. As if we were just walking down the street and, oh, our picture was taken. Everyone has their own style. But, when couples wear matching outfits (both white shirts and jeans for example) I feel something is lost in their individuality. Bright colors always look great in photos!

4. Use your camera: This may sound strange…But, I mean it! When you go wedding dress shopping have a friend take a camera. Take pics of the dresses you try on. It is nice to see how they look on film and an easy way to remember them later when you are trying to make a decision. Do a trial run of your make up and take a picture. How does it look? Some brides have a hard time determining how much make up to wear. It may look like or feel like a lot. But, in order to show up in pictures you need to wear more make up than usual.

5. Relax: This is especially important for pictures. If you are nervous or uncomfortable in your engagement or wedding photos, it shows!!!! You must relax in front of the camera. Giggle, laugh, do what you have to do to look natural. If you find this difficult, do it the Tyra Banks America’s Next Top Model way: practice in front of the mirror. Break out that camera if you need to and practice with a friend. This may sounds silly. But, it works! And last but not least, Relax!!! Because the hardest part is over, you have found the love of your life and nothing can change that! So what if the ceremony is late, so what if your nail polish is chipped, so what if the DJ is a no show! You are so lucky to be marrying the man of your dreams. Nothing else matters.

Here are just a few images from Jill's big day. Jill was a joy to work with and I have really enjoyed continuing getting to know her:) I still have people refer to how unique this wedding was....I adored every detail!!

Hello Blog Followers…
My name is Mrs. Robinson (but you can call me Amber)! I began my search for the perfect wedding photographer when I was six and asked my childhood photographer to do my wedding! Haha! It was quite possibly the BIGGEST and most important element that I focused on! You can never have the moments of your big day back…so I wanted to remember it well!

When Mr. Robinson asked me to be his bride, I naturally said yes, and then began the search to find the perfect artist to capture my day! I say artist, because that is what I wanted…No,No…not someone to make me look like I was the best lookin’ girl on earth, but someone who would take pride in capturing my day, just as if it was a work of art!

Being a creative, yet still conservative person I wanted to get those photos that my mom wanted and all of the fun and care free shots of the day!
I met with three photographers, who I really was just not feeling and then…I found Sarah! I swear I stalked her facebook and blog for weeks… waiting for new pictures! I was addicted!

I drove down to Evansville to meet Sarah and was thrilled with everything! From her albums and portfolio to her great new studio, dress, and who could leave out her southern accent! As soon as I heard her voice and laugh I knew that she would bring calm and fun to my day!

Thanks to Sarah I now have pictures that I am proud of, my family loves, and memories that will never fade!

Here they are Jon & Rebecca...my last wedding of 2010. It rained ALL day...no kidding, but we rocked it out and had a beautiful day anyway;)

I first meet Rebecca when she came in for her consult....it was one of my first consults at the new Studio..pretty sure I didn't have a thing on the walls..yet...she believed in me anyway. A couple weeks later I ran into her at Smitty's and pretty much knew she was the client for me;)haha I had a blast getting got know Jon and Rebecca. Such a beautiful ceremony and the first dance with her dad...are you kidding me, tear jerker!!

Meet Dan & Marissa......awesome couple I had the pleasure of shooting their wedding day.

But as you know everything has a story...and this goes a little something like this.

My Friend Amanda had asked me back in the Spring if I was open on October 16th to be a second shooter with her at Dan and Marissa's wedding. I was most certain I wanted to to:) Well the reason being is that Amanda was/is carrying twins...so it was crucial she find someone to help her out.

Well 3 days prior to the big day Amanda got put on bed rest....OH DEAR LORD!!! That's what I was thinking...I'm sure she was thinking something along the same lines. I was so dang nervous to step in and "be Amanda". I mean lets be honest, every couple hires a Photographer for their style...and while mine and Amanda's are similar....I'm not her. SO I was just worried about pleasing Amanda and above and for most Dan & Marissa....that's some big shoes to fill, being that I had not met them until 2 hours prior to the wedding:)

So there was no turning back...Sam and I drove to Cincinnati and was honored to be a part of their day....it was nothing short of amazing and just Beautiful!!! This is indeed one of the most love filled weddings I have photographed...and it showed!

Where I

-have been so busy shooting all I have time to do is download and back-up images.
-promised myself the next year will not be a repeat of last years craziness...and it is.
-went into the office and turned on my computer and every action I had ever created for myself...WAS GONE!!
-had minor surgery and got a new puppy during the busiest time of year.
-have tried to take some time for myself without feeling guilty.

Last week I had lunch with my mom....we talked and laughed and I cried....and she listened.......

You see there are days where I am my own worst enemy. I was taught if you going to do anything, you better do it right! That very statement is whats drives me crazy and makes me who I am all at the same time. There are days I struggle with this way more than others...the other day I turned around and said to Chandra "Why can't I just do something half-ass?...seems like my life would be easier!" I didn't really mean it...but dang it!!

It's all about:

remaining TRUE to who you are no matter what life hands you and who you piss off.

dealing with some who complain your prices are too high as they get out of their new car and reach for their wallet out of their Coach purse.

being on Facebook and people think your can't possibly be working.

Networking and it notWORKING.

people not understanding taking a day off in the middle of the week, because you worked all weekend.

when your friends and family hire you...and then when they don't!

wondering if people would try to take advantage of me if I sold paint at Lowes.

not thinking about the business 24 hours a day.

saying what needs to be said whether it's an appropriate time or not.

other people bashing your work or how you choose to make art.

remembering where you came from...TRUST me when I tell you I know exactly where I came from. It is 100% woven in me and makes me who I am.

not being so busy capturing everyone elses memories and missing out on making my own.

people waiting for you to fall on your face....been there done that...and got back up...I'm not afraid.

it's about deleting a "friend" on Facebook and them getting mad....really! Maybe they are pretend mad since they were a pretend friend.

listening to my dad...he is one smart man.

realizing you didn't know someone as well as you thought you did.

finding the right friends as you are now married and have kids.

adjusting to not having as much time with my kids.

being completely open on this blog:)

10 years...10 reason I love....

10 years! Holy cow can you believe it?!?!

It's been a fantastic ride so far....looking forward to the future:)

10 reasons why I love him:
1. He is so patient with me. I love people who have patience because...well, I have none;)
2. He is my rock...like rock solid! I can count on him for anything and everything.
3. He kisses me every morning before he leaves for work.
4. He does dishes, laundry, and cleans house without me even asking...always has:)
5. He tells me I'm pretty all the time...even when I don't feel it:)
6. He has helped me so much behind the scenes of the business....I have been through a lot and he has been there to help me through it.
7. He is the best dad.
8. He is a hard worker and has always made sure we have what we need as a family.
9. He ate all my Hamburger helper and other box entrees BEFORE I learned to cook;)
10. He is damn good looking!

So yesterday was really our 10 years, and since I was busy getting ready for that I'm blogging today:)

So starting in the a.m. I sent notes with the kids requesting they go to after school daycare. Then around 2:00 I put my dress, heels, and some Eric Church on the radio and started cooking dinner. I need no special reason to get all dressed up folks. It's all about keeping things fresh. So when he got home it was a surprise.

My new Favorite wine:)

Grilled peppercorn Ribyes with mushroom sauce, Italian & Cheese Baked potatoes, Dessert {not pictured} Cookie dough ice cream pie...sooo good:)

Well another blog post with some truth:) You all know I like to keep things real, right? Well this blog post is nothing short of that.

I will be the first to admit...I have no problem talking about a business one way or another. If I was treated right and had a great experience, you gonna know about it. If I had did not have such a great experience, well you gonna know that too. I tell things like they are, this has a good side and bad side. {"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." Kurt Cobain} Yep...so true!

So you know I had a contest recently. You just had to go on over to Facebook and tell why you liked working with me. A lot of you did...and I was so grateful for all the things you said:) To me this business is way more than just taking pictures...and I hope my images convey that. So here comes the being real part.....It's always hard when I put all I have into a wedding or session and blog it, deliver the print order or in the case of a wedding mail them their images and wait for it....never hear anything back! Crazy, I know...I guess no news is good news....well, I don't know about that. This doesn't happen a lot, but it does happen. A simple Thank you goes a long way in my book and heck at least lets me know they received it. Ok...off the soapbox for now;)

The decision to marry on 09/19/09 was made on 08/06/09. Uncle was going to take our pics at my dad's house but at last minute I changed my mind. The little girl inside of me that dreamed of a big wedding wanted an experienced wedding photographer. Who isn't nervous about a stranger taking the most important photos of ...your life? Right? Sarah is not only stylish, loving, funny, patient, enthusiastic, but she is also "yours for the day". Ever since I met Jamie, she has wanted nothing more than to have a baby. I thought to myself, Why? I have two that you could borrow anytime...hahaha you know I'm kidding, right;)

Well Jamie's road to getting to this point has not been an easy road...but anything thing worth having is worth fighting for, right? Fight she did!!

I will never forget when she called me to tell me she was pregnant, "I'M PREGNANT!!!!...OH MY GOD, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!?!?!" We were both crying;)

From the beginning, Jamie had all these ideas for a maternity shoot....well jump ahead a few pounds and she changed her mind real quick. She insisted she was NOT getting in front of the camera. Let's just say I thought otherwise. I knew she would regret it if she didn't. So I did not let up;)

a couple of Saturday's ago I drove over and surprised her at her baby shower, and she cried....love her!!

Anywho, long story short I told her I needed just one picture {wink, wink} So we headed out to her house and only shot for about 10 minutes and got some great images.

I'll share just a few today:)

Abby works at a bank...my dad does business at that bank...see where I'm going?

You see my dad has never met a stranger...and he is one of my BIGGEST fans!!!

So when someone even mentions marriage he does not hesitate to ask if they have a Photographer, and Abby didn't;)
He called me one day, as he usually does to check on me and see how the business is going and mentioned he gave my name out. He said "I had to write down on a piece of paper, because I'm out of business cards, and then I had to go back in because I forgot the Photography on the end". I thought to myself OMGoodness...not a piece of paper!!

Anywho, That girl called me!!! She said she knew I was the right fit, when she Heather on the Hay bail {can be seen here}
*Sidenote:::Whoever you hire to shoot your wedding MAKE sure your click with your Photographer. It will make things go so smooth!

and so as the saying goes...The rest is History!!

Christmas!! I know you might not be as excited as I am...but I CAN'T wait!

I'm here writing you to tell ya that only leaves 56 days to schedule your portrait session. November 11th will be the last day of shooting before the Holidays.

Some details about the sessions:

~Sessions are $150.00

~Scheduled Monday through Thursday...No Saturdays or Sundays, all booked.

~$75.00 non-refundable deposit to book your session.

~On-Location of your choice.

~Lab orders to be placed within 2 weeks of viewing your proofs.

In other news....
I will be out of the office all next week September 20-24th. Gonna do some 10 year anniversary celebrating:)
Internet will be sparse....will return calls and emails on Monday the 27th. Thanks in advance for your patience.

Also if you know anything about the westside of Evansville...you know the Fall Festival is coming up...while I will be on Franklin st, it won't be to work in the office;) I will be eating my way through all the booths. We made a trip to Cincinnati this past weekend and had OUR family pictures taken. To say I was excited is an understatement!!

I first meet Amanda in my early days of the business. We had met through social networking site. Anywho, several of us had decided to get together and trash some dresses...Rock on. I was all about...let's just say my wedding photos were not that great...putting it mildly;) So I jumped at the chance to have some images that would capture our love...even if it was 8 years later. You can see those images here

Sooo....I thought it was high time we get our family photos done. Amanda posted a Sneak Peek on Saturday evening, so I thought I would share:)

If I fail at everything else I try to do in my lifetime, I sure hope I don't fail at being what the kids will remember as an amazing momma. I look at these photos and just smile...and think I made that...THIS is my life...yep I'm pretty proud!

Erica was just simply Beautiful...and her dress had pockets!! OMGosh...don't even get me started. A wedding dress with pockets...heck I would probably wear that with my boots to the store;) It was made for her!!
